New Outbuilding and House Refurbishment, Exbury, Hampshire

The owner's of this beautiful property initially approached Forest to design a new outbuilding that could accommodate two cars and provide ample space for use as a workshop. The dwelling, originally built as a schoolhouse, had the old school toilets within the garden. These were to be turned into a potting shed and a new-build traditional greenhouse is proposed to abut it.

This is a sensitive site in a quiet corner of Hampshire. It was important that the materials chosen were a close match to the original building but that the proposals that were made were more contemporary in design to distinguish the building from the historical context in which it resides.

A new brick walled garden is proposed, which will be entirely private and the soft landscaping will provide breathing space between the two buildings.

The main dwelling is proposed to be refurbished. The entire roof is to be replaced as well as a replacement shower room and a converted integral garage, which will become an art studio.

The project was submitted for planning approval in March 2017 and it is now in construction.

Main Contractor: Belmore Building Limited

Structural Engineer: R. Elliott and Associates
