Working in a National Park

The practice has successfully gained planning permission in a number of National Parks. The idea of entering the planning process within a National Park, however, should not be daunting if people are considering a project in those areas.

There are planning policies and design guidance that are specific to those areas, which as long as they are followed should make the process quite smooth.  You would be surprised how amenable National Park Authorities have become  towards contemporary architecture arriving at their doorstep. That said, new buildings and extensions to existing buildings within a National Park context, still need to sit comfortably, if not quietly, within that environment. Building design needs to consider the impact upon local ecology/biodiversity. The design needs to consider the choice of materials and the general height and building form. Large expanses of glass don’t tend to gain much support as this can lead to too much light pollution at night. You need to ensure any new additions do not stand out for the wrong reasons!
