Thatched Cottages is a terrace of three properties in West Chinnock, Somerset. Having purchased their neighbour’s house, our Client appointed us to unify their current home with their newly acquired property next door. This involved complete reconfiguration of both properties to serve the family’s needs. Through careful dialogue with the local authority and English Heritage we were permitted to demolish a low quality 1970’s rear extension and replace it with an oak framed modern extension. This provided a hidden wc and utility behind an open dining space with large doors opening out into the garden. English Heritage were very supportive of the use of oak with a zinc roof, as these modern materials created a clear dialogue between old and new.
