The Ash House, New Forest National Park

New-build House in a National Park

The Ash House is located in Brockenhurst, outside the Conservation Area. Generally properties along the road are large and diverse in terms of how they look. The original dwelling had an inefficient layout and architecturally was a confused aesthetic. The owners asked us to modify and extend the property and whilst the proposals were welcomed, they decided upon a more radical approach, to replace the house altogether.

The site is in the National Park so it was critical to consider the impact upon the immediate context, including aspects such as detriment to wildlife. Properties along the road have been built with an array of materials, however, we decided to keep the material palette traditional with a hint of timber cladding. Technologies integrated include MVHR, an air source heat pump, underfloor heating and integrated solar pv panels.
